DJ Ones' Five Music Facts from the past music week

1. At SXSW Jack White unveiled his newest idea, the rolling record store. The record store on wheels, which sells Third Man Record albums, t-shirts, and other paraphernalia. (via Third Man Records)

2. Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz fame, is set to star in a musical that he himself wrote. The play will be performed in London and will be based around a 16th century spy, John Dee. (via BBC)

3. It has been confirmed that there will be a collaboration between Radiohead frontman, Thome Yorke, and Doom. Not much else is currently available about their upcoming project. (via Pitchfork)

4. The Mountain Goats are doing their part to help raise money for Japan following the tsunamis. The band, which is currently auctioning a one track demo on ebay. All proceeds go towards helping Doctors Without Boarders. (via Pitchfork)

5. TV on the Radio have announced that bassist and keyboardist Gerard Smith has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. (via TV on the Radio)

DJ Ones' Five Music Facts from the past week



1. After a bit of hysteria last week, it has since been confirmed that Gorillaz will not be breaking up. Representatives of the act have come out saying, "Despite rumours to the contrary, Gorillaz are alive and well and misbehaving in London W10." (via Clash Music)

2. Danger Mouse and Jack White are set to work on a collaboration together called Rome. The work, which features Danger Mouse and a variety of other artist, is set to release on Capitol Records in May. (via Pitchfork)

3. The Fresh & Onlys lead, Tim Cohen, is readying an upcoming solo album titled Magic Trick. The album will be out on February 22. (via Exclaim!)

4. The music streaming website SoundCloud has recently hit the milestone of three million users. The site has grown by a third since the beginning of the year. "To see this kind of exponential increase is incredible," said the founder of SoundCloud Alexander Ljung. (via NME)

5. After realizing that a fan ticket exchange site had been selling tickets to the final LCD Soundsystem show in New York at inflated prices, frontman James Murphy responded by telling those selling at inflated prices to "eat shit." Pre-sale tickets for the Madison Square Garden show were showing up on Stub-Hub before the ticketing opened up to the general public at significantly higher prices. (via NME)

1. Singer Nick Cave was involved in a car crash Tuesday December 8. Cave smashed his car against a speed camera on the Hove seafront in Sussex, England. Cave and his two sons who were with him walked away from the collision unharmed. He refused to comment on the incident, and no other cars were involved. (via BBC)

2. After completion of the Tron Legacy soundtrack, Daft Punk will now be getting their own line of merchandise from Disney. The merchandise that Disney will be offering in promotion of the film and soundtrack include a set of light-up headphones, and a set of toys that depict their likeness. (via Pitchfork)

3. Los Campesinos! have announced plans to release a quarterly magazine titled Heat Rash. The publication will include a 7' single, and exclusive tracks to download from the band. The subscription also includes discounts to band merchandise, access to early concert tickets, and music before it gets released. (via LosCampesinos.com)

4. After announcing the process of recording an entire album on an iPad, Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn is planning on releasing said album for free on Christmas Day. The record, which was recorded exclusively on Albarn's iPad during his latest tour, will be available in its entirety on December 25. (via NME)

5. The British super-group formed out of members of The Libertines and Arctic Monkeys have detailed information about the release of their debut album. The group, named The Bottletop Band, is prepared to release their album in April. (via NME)

DJ Ones Five Music Facts from the past week



1. Arcade Fire has announced specifics for their upcoming album entitled The Suburbs. Earlier in the week, the band released a special 12'' single with two songs from the upcoming album. They have also announced a release date in early August. (via NME)

2. MIA has recently tweeted the phone number of a New York Times journalist who recently published an article that detailed the artist in an unflattering light. In response Lynn Hirschberg, the writer whose number was publicly released, responded saying, "She's a provocateur, and provocateurs want to be provocative." Hirschberg also stated that she found MIA's response, "not surprising." (via Guardian)

3. Due to Bono's recent back surgery, U2 had to cancel their upcoming tour and headlining of Glastonbury. It was then later released that the band that would be replacing U2 at the upcoming festival would be Gorillaz instead. (via BBC)

4. The New Pornographers' Kathryn Calder is set to release her own solo album on August 10th. Following fellow bandmates including Neko Case, Calder's first solo album is entitled Are You My Mother? (via Pitchfork)

5. David Byrne is suing the Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist, alleging that the Talking Heads' song "Road to Nowhere" was used in an advertisement without permission or proper licensing. Byrne is seeking $1 million in damages. (via ABC)
