Liz Janes in-studio interview coming up 6/25!

Soulful singer-songwriter Liz Janes will be stopping by WKNC this Saturday, June 25th at 2pm for an in-studio interview with DJ Elly May. Janes began her interest in music at a young age and then went from being involved in the Northwestern noise scene to making her own bluesy folk music; now she has made a splash at WKNC with her new album Say Goodbye.  Despite its title, it certainly is not a goodbye from the artist who is in fact saying hello to the Triangle through two performances this weekend besides her on-air interview.  She'll be performing Friday at the Wild Goose Festival taking place at Shakori Hills this weekend and will be following up her interview with us with a show at Open Eye Café in Carrboro.  Be sure to tune in to find out more about this artist and be sure to leave a comment below if there's a question you'd like asked during the interview.

Local Beat preview 7/23/10

The Local Beat this evening with a variety of guests for tonight's show.

We'll start at 5 p.m. with several different bands and representatives from the Local Musical Chairs Compilation who are coming by to chat about the project and its progress. In case you are uninformed about the project, it is a compilation of local bands covering other local bands. Each group is picking their cover at random at the Open Eye Cafe on July 24.  The bands are then recording at Nightsound Studios who is heading the project and accepting a donation to fund the release of free CDs. Just recently, the project passed its goal mark of $1,100 and still has eight days left!

At 6 p.m., singer-songwriter and Raleigh native Jason Adamo is slipping in to chat about his newest release, Transistor, which was recorded with John Briggs in Pittsboro NC. Listen in for some debut airing of the new material!

7 p.m. is bringing in Wesley Wolfe who has just recently put out his second album and first through Odessa Records. The album is called Storage, and we will be playing some tunes off that for the hour. Feel free to download his track "Who's Going To Truly Love You" here.

Local Beat preview 7/31/09

The Local Beat section of the WKNC blog has been keeping a low profile recently, in part because I'm a control freak and don't want to tell someone else to do it instead, in part because I've been working on a research paper that's due tomorrow, and in part because I've been moving out of a disgusting 6-person college student house all week.

But that doesn't mean we're not giving you more than your daily prescribed dose of local music tonight at 5pm.  In fact, we're ODing on it.

At 5:00 Violet Vector & The Lovely Lovelies and Mike Dillon of Gross Ghost will be by to talk about their show next Friday at Slim's.

Then at 6:00 Jeff Crawford and Nick Jaeger of The Tomahawks--and every other band you've ever loved--will be playing some songs and chatting about the MS Open Eye Series.  They're playing tomorrow (Saturday 8/1) at the Open Eye Cafe in Carrboro at 8pm (suggested $5 donation to support Zach Terry's MS Ride team).

And last but CERTAINLY not least is The Proclivities, who'll be playing The Pour House Music Hall tonight alongside Modern Skirts and Heypenny.  They'll be stopping by right around 7:00.
