Local Beer Local Band—June 10 Edition!
Get ready for it! This Thursday, like each Thursday, WKNC and Tir na nOg Irish Pub bring you Local Beer Local Band night. This Thursday we have Goodbye Titan, The White Cascade, and Starmount. Hold the phone, this will be a good show!
As usual this show is FREE FREE FREE and there is an awesome selection of local beers which are all on special. So special that this show, as are all LBLB shows, is 21 and up. Sorry, kiddos.
You can expect some wonderful landscape music from Goodbye Titan. The Independent would say that this band is good for "fans of Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky." If that sounds like you, come on out! If you wonder what that sounds like, you come on out too!
White Cascade is a trio of Matts—as in everyone is named Matt—and rock out with long, building, amazing tracks.
Starmount, as our DJ Caid put it, is "somewhere between country, ambient, experimental rock, and elevator music." All of these bands are mostly instrumental and tickle your ears slowly and then build to strong endings that leave with your eardrums completely rocked.
Don't forget the local beers on tap. Big Boss's new brew Diablo was recently added to the Local Beer list! Yum yum! This will be a very enjoyable show of homegrown bands and homegrown beers, so bring your friends! WKNC will be there!
Coming soon!!!
> 6/17- Colossus, White Tiger, The Bed of Roses
> 6/24- Embarrassing Fruits, Whatever Brains, Yardwork

WAR OF THE WORLDS Live Broadcast Halloween Night!
This Halloween night, the Martians are invading the airwaves and striking terror in the hearts of WKNC listeners everywhere.
This live, localized adaptation of the Mercury Theater production of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds is the brainchild of Damian Maddalena, who, as La Barba Rossa, hosts WKNC's Saturday morning 60s and 70s program, Mystery Roach. Maddalena, along with his Two Cabbage Radio Players, have worked diligently to season the science fiction classic with local flavor. Sound effects will be performed by Brian Donohoe, member of the local band Starmount. AV Geek Skip Elsheimer lends his voice to the production, along with a motley crew of WKNC Djs, NCSU students and community members who share Maddalena's vision and taste for the unusual: DJs Alex Steinbaugh, Caitlin Cauley, Jacob Downey, Liz Cervantes, and Mike Gray, along with grad student Dave Fallest and Magic Babies keyboardist Brandon Whitesell.
The invasion will take place at 7 p.m. on October 31. You can get ready for Halloween debauchery to the sounds of the Triangle's destruction, only on 88.1 FM or streaming online.

Local Beer Local Band Night
This Thursday at Tir Na Nog is the Sparkcon Kickoff show. Sparkcon is
a annual DIY festival that showcases Raleigh’s top artists. This show
has a great local lineup: Starmount, Aminal Music, The Jackets and
Bright Young Things. Starmount is a psychedelic, down-tempo, four
piece band headed by Greg Elkin, who has produced albums for many well
known local artists (including Goner- YEAH!). Aminal and The Jackets
will bless the stage with a heavy dose of Americana-Indie rock
followed by Bright Young Things, which will crush you with its pop
sensibility.
This event will also provide local beer tasting from Foothills beer, a
Winston Salem brewery.
Tune in Thursday at 7 p.m. for an interview with Bright Young Things.

Local Beat preview 9/4/09
Tonight on the Local Beat is going to be another three hours of musical goodness. Check out the lineup for the show!

At 5pm Reid Johnson from Schooner is stopping by to talk about the band’s recent adventures and play some brand new tunes for us off of their upcoming “Duck Kee Sessions” EP that just hit the internet. Schooner is also playing tonight at the Pour House alongside the Magic Babies & Starmount for what should be a killer show.
6pm is a huge thrill for me as I am bringing in one of my favorite local bands, and also one of the most elusive, the Carolina Chocolate Drops. CCD is playing at the Cats Cradle tomorrow night for a rare local show that you are not going to want to miss out on. I also think this may be their WKNC debut...

The show is a benefit to battle Multiple Sclerosis and Zach is playing solo, being joined by Lafcadio, The Tomahawks, and The Last of the Great Sideshow Freaks (The Old Ceremony’s Mark Simonsen's band).
So drop a line to the Local Beat, every Friday evenings from 5pm-8pm. Listen on the air or listen over the internet!
